Frequently asked

How accurate is this estimate?

It's a ballpark within about $1,000 either direction for most projects. The calculator picks up the broad strokes (page count, complexity, integrations) but not the specifics that affect a real quote: your existing brand assets, content readiness, edge cases in your industry, integration quirks. For a real number, send me what you're thinking and I'll quote it.

What's actually included in a website project?

Design, development, content layout, basic SEO setup, mobile optimization, performance tuning, and launch. Two rounds of revisions are included. Hosting setup, domain configuration, and a Google Business Profile review are bundled in. Things like ongoing content updates, future feature work, and major redesigns are separate.

Are there hidden costs after launch?

No hidden costs. Your ongoing expenses are: my standard hosting and maintenance plan (which includes one hour of work each month plus monthly monitoring of Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, and Cloudflare analytics), domain renewal (around $12 per year), and any third-party services you choose to add (online ordering, email marketing, etc.). I send a one-page handoff doc so you know exactly what's running and what it costs.

What about hosting, domain, and SSL?

I host the sites I build. Hosting is bundled into my standard maintenance plan, with SSL configured automatically and ongoing analytics monitoring included. For your domain, I can manage registration and DNS for you (the easiest option for most clients), or you can manage it yourself through your own registrar. If you don't want to deal with any of it, I can transfer your domain to my Squarespace registrar account and handle renewals, DNS, and email forwarding from there. You always keep ownership of your domain.

Does the price include writing the content?

Light copy editing and structure work, yes. Full copywriting from scratch is a separate engagement. I'll work with what you provide, polish it, and write any glue copy needed (button labels, microcopy, alt text). If you want me to write product descriptions or service pages from scratch, that's an add-on we can scope.

Can I pay in installments?

Yes. Standard split is 50% up front, 50% at launch. For larger projects we can do thirds: kickoff, midpoint review, launch. I'm not a fan of complicated billing, so simpler is usually better. Stripe handles the payments so you can pay by card or ACH.

What if I need changes after launch?

Two rounds of revisions are included as part of the project itself. After launch, my standard hosting and maintenance plan covers one hour of work each month for content updates, tweaks, and small additions. I also monitor Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, and Cloudflare analytics monthly so you know how the site is performing. Larger work like new sections, redesigns, or custom features is quoted separately on top of the standard plan.

Why does custom code cost more than a Wix or Squarespace template?

Templates are cheap because they're built once and rented to thousands of businesses. They're also bloated, slower, and limited in what they can do. Custom code is built for your business specifically, loads in under a second, ranks better in search, and doesn't have a monthly platform fee. The break-even point is usually 18 to 24 months: after that, custom is cheaper AND better.
